A leather roughing tool for preparing leather edges and surfaces before gluing.
 
The Leather Roughing Tool is designed to roughen the surface of leather before adhesive is applied, helping to create a better surface for bonding.
Smooth leather surfaces can make it more difficult for adhesive to grip effectively. By gently roughing the area to be glued, this tool exposes and textures the leather surface, helping the adhesive make better contact with the material.
It is particularly useful for preparing leather edges before gluing layers together, making it a practical tool for wallets, card holders, bags, watch straps, belts and other leathercraft projects.
 
The working tip is made from 3Cr13 stainless steel and heat-treated to approximately HRC 52–54 for improved durability and long-term use.
The textured tip allows the leatherworker to roughen a controlled area without relying on improvised tools such as knives or coarse abrasives.
 
For best performance, regularly clean the roughing tip to prevent leather fibres and residue from building up.
We recommend using a brass brush to clean the stainless steel tip after use.
