This Vergez Blanchard pricking and marking wheel combines two essential functions in a single, well-balanced tool, suitable for leathercraft, bookbinding, and other precision handwork. Designed for consistent spacing and clean layout, it allows accurate marking prior to stitching or sewing.
The set includes four interchangeable wheels with different stitch-per-inch (SPI) counts:
7, 8, 10, and 12 SPI (corresponding to 3.85 / 3.38 / 2.70 / 2.25 mm). These options cover a wide range of stitching styles, from bold decorative work to fine, closely spaced seams.
A distinctive feature of this tool is the integrated wheel storage system. The brass ball at the top of the handle houses a built-in reservoir, simply unscrew the brass cap to store spare wheels securely inside the handle, reducing the risk of loss during use or transport.
The tool’s extended length allows users to brace it against the shoulder when marking firmer materials, providing additional leverage and improved control during longer passes.
The handle is made from varnished wood, fitted with copper components and a forged steel working head. Wheel changes are quick and straightforward thanks to an easy-to-rotate screw mechanism, allowing efficient switching between wheel sizes without unnecessary handling.
Function and Use
Pricking wheel: Rolls smoothly along leather or paper to create evenly spaced guide holes or marks for stitching or embroidery.
Marking wheel: Produces clean, consistent stitch marks without fully piercing the material, ideal for layout and alignment.
Additional wheel sizes are available separately. Left-handed wheels with reversed teeth can be supplied on request.
