The Vergez Blanchard Diamond Shaped Leather Sewing Awl is a traditional hand tool designed for precise hand-stitching in leatherwork. The blade is made from hardened, high-quality steel, hand-forged and pre-sharpened, ready for use straight out of the box. Each awl is fitted with a smooth cherry wood handle.
Available in 9 blade sizes and 3 handle sizes, this awl allows makers to choose a width that matches their pricking iron or pricking wheel. Selecting the correct size is important to ensure clean, consistent stitch holes and to avoid damaging the leather fibres.
For correct use and to prevent damage, the awl should be pushed into the leather and withdrawn at the same angle. Twisting or rocking the blade while stitching can place stress on the steel and may cause the tip to snap.
