Design & Materials
The body of the plough is made from polished solid brass. Brass gives the tool excellent stability during use, while also developing a natural patina over time.
The plough is supplied with a hardened steel blade. The blade produces clean, accurate cuts through leather and can be resharpened repeatedly, extending its working life. The handle is made from rosewood, providing a warm, comfortable grip and balancing the weight of the brass body.
 
Cutting Action
Unlike pull-style strap cutters, the plough gauge works with a pushing motion, which many craftsmen prefer for the increased leverage and stability it provides. This motion helps maintain consistent pressure against the leather edge, making it easier to achieve straight, even straps, particularly on thicker hides.
