This sewing thimble was designed based on feedback from craftsmen and leatherworkers:
- Fatigue-Free Sewing: A sturdy thimble is essential to push needles effortlessly and reduce finger strain during long sewing sessions.
- Enhanced Durability: Unlike traditional thimbles made from soft materials that risk being punctured by sharp needles, this thimble is built to last.
- Improved Grip: Standard thimbles often have shallow dimples, making needle slippage a common issue. This design features deeper and larger dimples to secure the needle and prevent hand injuries. Perfect for heaness needles.
By chosing the DIY version, you can use leather to craft a custom ring band and sew this thimble onto it for a unique, decorative touch.
To ensure effective finger protection, this thimble is made from high-strength 420 stainless steel, hardened to approximately HRC 50 for exceptional durability. The thicker material prevents deformation and offers reliable support even when working with thick leather like that used in bags and saddles.
Unlike regular thimbles designed for fabric sewing, which often feature small, shallow dimples, this thimble has deeper, larger dimples to accommodate thicker needles commonly used in leatherwork. The thimble is polished to a mirror finish—not cheap nickel plating—making it as attractive as it is functional.
Metal Sewing Ring Thimble
Due to its hardness and thickness, adjusting the thimble’s diameter can be challenging. Please measure your finger size carefully to ensure the correct fit. If minor adjustments are needed, follow these tips:
- Measure Beforehand: Choose the correct size based on your finger circumference:
- 19mm diameter = 59.66mm circumference
- 20mm diameter = 62.80mm circumference
- 22mm diameter = 69.00mm circumference
- For Slight Adjustments: If the thimble feels slightly loose, gently tap the edges with a hammer to resize it (check the photo above). Don’t worry—standard hammers are softer than the thimble material, so they won’t leave marks. However, avoid striking too hard to prevent damaging the ring edges.
